  1. Oh the sugar binge. How I love and despise it! If I am going to cave into my sugar cravings, I try to make “better choices,” e.g. natural sugars vs artificial, dark chocolate vs milk/white, etc. Dried fruit is delicious, though they have a higher concentration of sugar than their hydrated counterparts. Because I love sugar so much, I reserve sweet time for after dinner. If I’m being good, I drink a glass of water and/or some hot tea occasionally with a bit of honey if I have strong sugar cravings. That alone is usually very helpful. If I’m being really really good, I try to reflect on the reasons I want to eat sugar because it’s almost never a physiological hunger. If I do have a bad sugar binge, I have to drink lots and lots of water and try to eat clean the next day. Sugar is incredibly addictive (….I see it now looking back to my childhood when I drank gallons of orange juice and ate boxes of kids cereal all the time). The less you eat, the less you crave it, and before you know it, a piece of fruit will satisfy your sweet tooth. My wife once abstained from sugar and had the best sleep of her life, felt incredibly energized, felt mentally healthy and focused; it was the best she’s every felt physically and mentally. I imagine that’s how we should all be functioning if we were to treat our bodies well, but it’s so hard. So we do our best, but we’re not perfect. I’m inspired now to be better. Take care.
