Diet for a Small Planet: 20th Anniversary Edition (Ballantine Books, 1991)

In her groundbreaking 1971 book Diet for a Small Planet, Frances Moore Lappe asserted that meat production is devastating to the environment and is a major contributor to food scarcity.  She advocated instead for “environmental vegetarianism” — a manner of eating which benefits both our bodies and world we live in.

The book has sold over 3 million copies worldwide, and in 1991 was reprinted in a lovely 20th anniversary edition.
