Vegan Barbecue Sauce Recipe

This recipe gives you all the tangy goodness of barbecue sauce without the additives, preservatives, GMOs and high fructose corn syrup found in most commercial bottled sauces.  Use organic, non-GMO ketchup to keep it as natural as possible.

We like to use this as a dipping sauce for Quorn Chik’n Nuggets.  It would also taste great brushed on veggie burgers or riblets on the grill, or even on veggie loaf, just to give you a few ideas.

Ingredients
  • 1teaspoon Earth Balance buttery stick margarine(or 1 teaspoon olive oil)
  • 1clove garlicminced (or 1/2 teaspoon minced bottled garlic)
  • 1cup ketchup
  • 1/4cup light molasses
  • 2tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2tablespoons vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2teaspoon ground mustard

Instructions
  1. In small saucepan, melt Earth Balance over medium heat, or just heat oil in pan.
  2. Add minced garlic and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add remaining ingredients to sauteed garlic and whisk together well.
  4. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low.
  5. Cover the pan and simmer for 20 minutes.
