Common sense tells us that skim milk is healthier than whole milk, correct? Less fat equals healthier. But what is healthier than skim milk? How about plant and nut milks: soy, almond, hemp, rice, or coconut? Generally lower in fat content (although coconut milk has a high-fat content, it is plant-derived, not animal) and always cruelty-free, non-dairy milks are excellent substitutions in recipes and for washing down a yummy cookie.
In this episode, we discuss the importance of choosing healthier vegetarian/vegan options for many standard foods, whether you are consuming them directly or using them in cooking or baking. If you are new to eating a plant-based diet, it is essential to have a few good go-to resources to help you make a smooth transition to your healthier, happier lifestyle. Along with reviewing many substitutions, we also mention two excellent online resources you will want to bookmark.
