Who is Joanne Roach?
Joanne Roach is all about helping young children to love their fruits and veggies by building familiarity with them through exploration, stories, and play.
Her company, The Foodies Books, encourages children to grow, cook, and taste fruits and vegetables, to find out where food comes from, and to understand how foods grow in different seasons.
Joanne draws on the body of science that suggests that children are much more likely to accept foods that they are more familiar with — ones that they have seen or handled before they arrive on their plate.
Using seasonal veggie patch stories, videos, hands-on activities, and veg-focussed craft activities, Joanne takes some of the pressure away from busy parents and educators who want their children to eat well but dread mealtime battles.
Joanne loves reconnecting families with food seasons because seasonal food is generally more nutritious and is better for the planet and for your wallet. And most importantly, seasonal food just tastes better!
She is passionate about helping stressed-out families and has not only created a range of affordable products but also provides lots of free ideas on her website and in her new podcast, The Food For Kids Show.
Joanne has a big veggie patch and loves finding new seasonal recipes to use the things she has grown. She lives with her partner and two teenage kids in the countryside in the west midlands of England, near the border with Wales.
